Camp Lucy

Texas Hill Country

Sometimes you're not looking for a destination.

You're simply looking for somewhere that feels a little farther away than it actually is.

That's how I found Camp Lucy.

I wanted to escape the energy of Austin for a few days, and what I discovered instead was an entirely different landscape. Rolling hills, ancient oak trees, and quiet country roads replaced the city's constant movement. It was hard to believe this peaceful corner of Texas was only a short drive away.

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about Camp Lucy. It carries just enough of the feeling of summer camp—wide-open spaces, evenings outdoors, and a slower pace—to make you immediately relax. Only this version comes with beautifully appointed accommodations and one of the most memorable restaurants in the Hill Country.

Dinner feels like an event in itself. Set inside a beautifully restored hall, the atmosphere is warm, romantic, and unexpectedly transporting. For a moment, it feels less like Texas and more like you've wandered into the countryside of another country altogether.

What I remember most, though, is the quiet. Mornings with coffee on the porch. Evenings beneath a sky full of stars. The kind of place where nothing remarkable has to happen for the day to feel complete.

Camp Lucy wasn't the destination I had planned. It became exactly the escape I was hoping to find.
