Hotel Iroquois

Mackinac Island, Michigan

The Hotel Iroquois was a complete surprise to me — largely because it was never the hotel I originally intended to book.

Like many visitors to Mackinac Island, I had been trying to secure a stay at the famous Grand Hotel, but last-minute availability made that impossible. What I discovered instead was one of those rare travel experiences that quietly changes your expectations altogether.

Sometimes the stay you almost missed becomes the one you cannot imagine replacing.

My Tower Suite at the Iroquois felt magical from the moment I walked in. Windows surrounded the room, filling the space with light and uninterrupted views of the water, creating the feeling of being suspended between the lake and the sky.

What surprised me most, though, were the details. The restaurant was genuinely exceptional, with elegant china and thoughtful service that somehow felt both refined and relaxed — even outdoors. Throughout the property, there was a level of care and understated sophistication that felt deeply intentional.

The Iroquois may receive less attention than the Grand Hotel, but during my stay, it felt every bit as memorable and grand in its own quieter way. In fact, after experiencing it, I no longer felt as though I had missed out on anything at all.
