Concord’s Colonial Inn

Concord, Massachusetts

The Concord’s Colonial Inn is one of my favorite places to stay — and not because it is luxurious in the traditional sense.

In fact, part of its charm comes from the opposite. The floors slope. Some of the rooms are aging. Your suitcase may very well roll gently across the room on its own. And yet, I would choose it again without hesitation.

What makes the inn special is the feeling that you are stepping directly into the earliest chapters of American history. Concord is one of those rare towns where the past does not feel preserved behind glass — it feels alive around you. Walking through town, past historic homes, independent shops, and landmarks tied to the American Revolution, you can almost feel the weight of the country's beginnings lingering quietly in the air.

The inn itself deepens that feeling. Parts of the property date back centuries, and several rooms are rumored to be haunted. Considering that one section of the building once served as the home of a surgeon during the Revolutionary War, the stories feel less theatrical than strangely believable. Even the inn’s Ghost Bar leans into that history with a sense of fun that somehow adds to the experience rather than distracting from it.

This is not the place to come for flawless modern luxury. It is the place to come when you want atmosphere, history, character, and the rare feeling of sleeping inside a story much older than yourself.

At the Concord’s Colonial Inn, creaking floors, ghost stories, and centuries of history somehow make the experience even more magical.
